It's here! My favorite time of year in New Orleans is finally upon us. Carnival season is underway! Each year, my husband and I pick a ball or two to attend and soak in as many parades as possible leading up to Mardi Gras day.
We kicked off Carnival 2017 with the Krewe of Achaeans. It's one of the smaller, debutante balls, where the Queen, King and Maids are presented to New Orleans. It's one of those events that's seeped in Southern tradition.
Part of that tradition includes the "Costume de Rigeur" dress code. That means ball gowns for the gals and white tie or tails for the men. Military dress uniforms are also acceptable and always a hit! White gloves are standard, but not necessary.
With so many formal events in New Orleans, Rent the Runway is a lifesaver. It was especially so this year, considering I'm 6 months pregnant! I wore a sparkly stunner to Achaeans. It was a navy sequined dress by Badgley Mischka called the "American Liberty Gown." It fit like a glove and worked perfectly with my bump. I paired the dress with a Kendra Scott lariat necklace and long kid leather gloves.
While I can't let you in on all the secrets of the ball, I can tell you it was another successful year with a stunning court, gorgeous gowns and some hilarious costumes for members of the krewe. We can't wait for next year!
